Patchwork and Quilting – Monthly Classes with Online Tutorials

A 10-month course, with monthly Saturday morning sessions from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm.

Join me in Watford for a relaxed, informal class combining hands-on teaching, individual guidance and online learning. Sessions usually take place on the second Saturday of each month, from September to June, with a break during the course as needed.

Each year we’ll work on a different quilt project, exploring machine patchwork and quilting techniques while developing your confidence and design skills along the way.

Learn together, then carry on at home

During each session, I’ll demonstrate techniques and give you the opportunity to have a go, ask questions and get help with your work. The main project work will then take place at home, at your own pace.

You’ll have access to an online learning platform containing detailed tutorials, photographs, diagrams and videos. These resources are designed to accompany the classes, so you can revisit demonstrations and remind yourself how to tackle a technique whenever you need to.

What we’ll cover

Depending on the project, we’ll explore a range of skills, which may include:

• Rotary cutting and accurate machine piecing
• Getting the best from your sewing machine
• Colour choices and fabric selection
• Creative approaches to patchwork design
• Machine quilting and basic quilt construction

This year we are working on a modern improvisational medallion quilt, based on traditional blocks.

Who is it for?

All levels of experience are welcome, from beginners to more experienced quilters. The small-group format means there’s plenty of opportunity for individual attention and help with your work.

It’s a friendly, informal way to learn new skills, develop your own ideas and add a little design pizazz along the way!
