What you'll do

Work through a series of guided exercises using Procion MX dyes, soda ash and ice. Experiment with how the dyes spread and blend as the ice melts, creating different colours and patterns on your fabric

What you'll have

A collection of unique hand-dyed fabric samples to refer back to, and an understanding of how ice dyeing creates different colours and patterns. You may even produce larger pieces of fabric ready to use in a future quilt.

How long it takes

Allow a few hours to prepare your fabrics, set up the dyeing and work through some exercises, plus additional time for the dye to develop before rinsing and drying your fabrics.

How you'll learn

Self-directed — work through the tutorial in your own time and watch the video as often as you need. The written tutorial is yours to download and keep for future reference. Video access is available for as long as I continue to run my business.

Skill level

Beginner-friendly - No previous experience of ice dyeing is needed. You'll be guided through the process, from preparing your materials to creating your own hand-dyed fabrics. You'll need to follow the instructions for handling Procion MX dyes and soda ash carefully.
